REEL Success Story: Dorothy Fadiman7pm - 9:30pm
LOCATION:
Ninth Street Media Arts Center Since 1976, OSCAR-nominated, EMMY-winning filmmaker Dorothy Fadiman has been on a remarkable journey, producing twenty documentary films, covering many different subjects.
The films explore a variety of areas, from the light of Spirit in every faith (RADIANCE: The Experience of Light) to progressive education that honors children’s natural knowing (WHY DO THESE KIDS LOVE SCHOOL?) to the extraordinary healing progress of a woman with spinal cord injury (MOMENT by MOMENT: The Healing Journey of Molly Hale). Films about women's issues include these WOMAN by WOMAN: New Hope for the Villages of India, From RISK to ACTION: Women and HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia and a trilogy: FROM the BACK ALLEYS to the SUPREME COURT & BEYOND.
We look forward to seeing clips from a variety of Dorothy's films and hearing from her about her journey into filmmaking and her life’s work.
Dorothy is actively working on new projects after spending the last year touring with her film STEALING AMERICA: Vote by Vote.
Dorothy is currently working on three projects:
RECLAIMING their VOICES: The Native American Vote in New Mexico
Her nearly complete newest production is RECLAIMING their VOICES, which documents ways in which Native Americans have been disenfranchised, politically, in the past and how they are now becoming active. The film follows two efforts in New Mexico: the Laguna tribe's groundbreaking voter registration drive (2004) and the Sacred Alliance for Grassroots Equality's (SAGE's) work to preserve ancestral petroglyphs. In the film, we see both groups move forward to overcome major difficulties.
FROM the BACK ALLEYS to the SUPREME COURT & BEYOND
Dorothy is working with two PBS affiliates to re-release the abortion rights trilogy for broadcast in March, 2010.
PRODUCING with PASSION: Making Films that Change the World
